I know a man who lost his parents but refused to be called an orphan.

Man enough to love a strong woman years older than him, worked for her and made her stronger, opened his heart to her, sewed his clothes, and was faithful to her till her last breath. He was courageous and fearless.

He never judged anyone on their pasts or looks, and was moderate, open minded and tolerant. His neighbor was Jewish and his cousin-in-law was a Christian priest. He was beaten and exiled when he was helpless. He was merciful when he became stronger.

He was an intelligent, wise and a hard worker, built a long lasting nation out of nothing in the last 20 years of his life.

He had no parents, but loved his daughters and grandchildren. His one of the last will was "Be good to women".

This man is Prophet Muhammad, a man worth looking up to - peace be upon him

Just a couple of sayings of Muhammad peace be upon him below :

From Bukhari Volume 004, Book 052, Hadith Number 257.

Narrated By Abdullah : During some of the Ghazawat of the Prophet, a woman was found killed. Allah’s Apostle disapproved the killing of women and children.

"I advise you ten things: Do not kill women or children or an aged, infirm person. Do not cut down fruit-bearing trees. Do not destroy an inhabited place. Do not slaughter sheep or camels except for food. Do not burn bees and do not scatter them. Do not steal from the booty, and do not be cowardly."

Ibn 'Abbas says: The Messenger of Allah, when dispatching his troops, would tell them, ” ..Do not behave treacherously, nor misappropriate war-booty, nor mutilate [those whom you kill], nor kill children, nor the people in cloisters." (Musnad Ahmad, Sunan At-Tirmidhi)

Another narration records that he said, “...Do not kill a woman, nor a child, nor an old-aged man" (Sharh as-Sunnah Al-Baghawi)

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Prophet said: Go in Allah's name, trusting in Allah, and adhering to the religion of Allah’s Apostle. Do not kill a decrepit old man, a young infant, or a child, or a woman, do not be dishonest about booty, but collect your spoils, do right and act well, for Allah loves those who do well. (Sunan Abi Dawud)

And again, "Do not kill a child, nor a woman, nor an old man, nor obliterate a stream, nor cut a tree...” (Sunan Al-Bayhaqi)

Main Madinay chala, mein Madinay chala,
Phir karam ho gaya main Madinay chala.

Kaif sa cha gaya main madinay chala,
Jhoomta jhoomta main madinay chala.

Mere Aaqa ka darr hoga paish-e-nazar,
Chahiye aur kya main Madinay chala.

Dharkano tumhi kaho waqt woh kaisa hoga,
Samanay ankhon kay jab gunbad-e-sabz ho ga.

Gumbad-e-sabz par jab paray gi nazar,
Kya suroor aega main Madinay chala.

Jab gumbad-e-khizra pe woh, pehli nazar gayi,
Aankhon kay raastay meray dil mein uttar gayi.

Sabz gunbad ka noor zang kar day ga dur,
Paye ga dil jila, main Madinay chala.

Ashk thamtay nahi, paon jamtay nahi,
Larkharaata hua main madinay chala.

Mere Siddique Umar (raa) ho salaam aap par,
Aur rehmat sadaa main Madinay chala.

Woh uhod ki zammen jis k ander makeen,
Mere hamza piya main Madinay chala.

Ae shajar a hajar tum bhi shams-o-qamar,
Daikho daikho zara main Madinay chala.

Daikh taaray mujhe, yeh nazaray mujhe,
Tum bhi daikho zarra main Madinay chala.

Haath uth’tay rahain mujhko daitay rahain,
Woh talab se siwa main Madinay chala.

Noor-e-haq k Hazoor apnay saray kasoor,
Bakhswanay chala main Madinay chala.

Woh Bakee ki zameen jis k ander makeen,
Mere Madani Zia main Madinay chala.

Un k minaar par jab paray gi nazar,
Kya saroor aega main Madinay chala.

Minbar-e-noor par jab uthay gi nazar,
Kya saroor aega main Madinay chala.

Dard-e-ulfat milay zauq barhnay lagay,
Jab chalay qaafila main Madinay chala.

Kya karega idher baandh rakht-e-safar,
Chal may to chala main Madinay chala.

Main tou bus yoon hi tha meri ki aukaat kya,
Qaafia yeh mila main Madinay chala.

"How could you reach the pearl by only looking at the sea? If you seek the pearl, be a diver: the diver needs several qualities: he must trust his rope and his life to the Friend's hand, he must stop breathing, and he must jump."
~ Jalaluddin Rumi

"I was a tiny bug. Now a mountain. I was left behind. Now honored at the head. You healed my wounded hunger and anger, and made me a poet who sings about joy."
~ Jalaluddin Rumi

Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (rahmatuLlahi alaihi) mentions in his Mathnawi, a story of Sultan Mahmood: One day the Sultan decided to test his ministers and ordered them to crush the most prized pearl of his treasury. One by one, each of 65 ministers declined, stating that the pearl was far too valuable to be destroyed.

The King then summoned his closest and trusted courtier, Ayaaz, and ordered him to crush the pearl. Without any delay or hesitation, Ayaaz crushed the pearl into fragments. When the ministers expressed disbelief and shock at such audacity, the King asked Ayaaz to inform them as to the reason for him having broken the pearl.

In response, Ayaaz asked these ministers: "Which is more important, the Royal Decree or the pearl? "

The question we pose to ourselves is:

"Which is more important, the command of my Allah or the haram desire of my heart?"

The haram desires of the heart are akin to pearls, which appear to be quite beautiful but we should not fulfill these haram desires at the cost of breaking the decrees of Allah.

Ayaaz attained closeness to the king through his loyalty and faithfulness and his obedience and submission. Similarly, we will gain the extreme nearness and intimate closeness to the King of Kings through loyalty and faithfulness. This in turn is dependent upon sincere obedience and complete submission to His decrees
